Burrell Behavioral Health Pond Stormwater Improvements
Project Profile:
The Burrell Health Pond Stormwater Improvements project addressed the urgent need to replace a deteriorating stormwater pipe that had posed safety risks to the surrounding area, including the walking trail and parking lot. The existing corrugated metal pipe, which was over 30 years old, had begun to fail to the extent that, during routine landscaping, a worker narrowly avoided an incident due to a pipe collapse.
To tackle the issue, Burrell Behavioral Health and the City of Springfield collaborated on this valuable improvement project. Despite initial budget constraints for the City, Burrell invested in the necessary upgrades to ensure safety and longevity. Our engineering team designed a new headwall to direct stormwater flow safely into the pond, alleviating the structural strain caused by pipe deflections in the old system. Throughout the process, we worked closely with STOREE Construction to maintain alignment with Burrell’s vision and answer any questions that arose.
The completed project not only enhanced the stormwater management infrastructure but also added to the natural beauty and functionality of the pond area. Today, Burrell enjoys a safer, more scenic oasis that benefits both their patients and staff.
