Project Profile:

In the late spring of 2011, a catastrophic EF-5 category tornado ripped through the town of Joplin, Missouri, leaving devastation in its wake. With the town ravaged, rebuilding efforts began as soon as possible.

The City of Joplin hired OWN, Inc. to administer Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) projects in one of four zones on the tornado’s path.

The OWN team came together like any family would to help their friends, family, and neighbors of Joplin work to get life back to normal. OWN’s projects included roadway and intersection realignments, resurfacing and reconstruction of roadways, sidewalks, culverts, and lighting.

The services the OWN team provided in-house included:

  • Surveys
  • Geotechnical investigations
  • Engineering
  • Inspection and material testing on asphalt, base rock, and subgrade
  • Testing concrete approaches for air, slump, and compressive strength

The OWN team was humbled and honored to be a part of the recovery solution project to help the city of Joplin rebuild.
